Hearing Aid Technology

Many of the hearing aids we carry offer advanced features and technology to give you a personalized listening experience. These hearing aids are considered to be “smart” and allow you to hear in complex listening environments so you can truly enjoy life. Bluetooth hearing aids are very popular among our patients which allow the hearing aids to communicate with your Bluetooth devices, such as your smartphone or TV, so you can stream sound directly to your hearing aids. With Bluetooth hearing aids you can stream phone calls, music, and movie audio directly to your hearing aids without an intermediary device.

At Hearing Associates of South Carolina, we also carry rechargeable hearing aids. These are a great option for those who don’t want to spend time and money changing hearing aid batteries every week. With rechargeable hearing aids you simply place them on their charging station at night and in the morning, you’ll have fully charged devices.

In addition to Bluetooth and rechargeable hearing aids, many of today’s technology offers advanced noise control features that will allow you to hear the conversation even when you are around background noise. Modern hearing aids are designed to provide you with exceptional sound quality and clarity so you can engage in the conversation and live your best life.

Choosing the Right Hearing Aids

Because there are so many options of hearing aids available, we understand it can seem overwhelming to know which hearing aid will be best for your needs. Our audiologists understand the many different levels of hearing aid technology and the different styles available. They will help you find a hearing aid that meets all of your hearing needs, so you can live an improved quality of life.

During your hearing evaluation, we will go over some options of hearing aids that we believe will best help you. When recommending hearing aids, we look at a few factors:

  • Degree of hearing loss
  • Lifestyle (how active you are)
  • Physical needs
  • Hearing needs

Using these factors, we will determine what type and style of hearing aid will best help you hear better.

Binaural vs Monaural

When recommending a hearing aid for each ear (binaural), patients often ask why they need two hearing aids instead of one. Many people with hearing loss experience a loss in both ears, that means both ears would benefit from a hearing aid, and patients generally do much better wearing two hearing aids rather than one.

One of the main reasons we recommend two hearing aids versus one is because two hearing aids allow you to localize sound (understand where sound came from), which is only possible with two ears. You need both your ears in order to hear well. People generally cannot hear well using only one ear. Also, if you have hearing loss in both ears, but only wear one hearing aid, the ear without a hearing aid will progressively worsen and eventually won’t be able to understand speech anymore. Two hearing aids are beneficial to your overall well-being and are crucial for better hearing.

It’s Time to Get More Out of Life

The Oticon More is a new perspective in hearing care. This hearing aid is designed to work more like the brain does because it learned through experience. Using On-board Deep Neural Network (DNN) the Oticon More gives the brain more of the information it needs to make sense of sounds, even in the most complex listening environments. Research has proven that the brain needs access to all sounds – not just speech – in order to function in a natural way. Using MoreSound Intelligence, Oticon More delivers 30% more sound to the brain, making speech and other sounds clearer*.

With the Oticon More you will be able to enjoy, follow, and engage in conversations easier than before. You won’t have to strain to hear anymore, the Oticon More will do all the work while providing you with crystal clear sound.
